Her latest book, The Scrivener's Tale, is a stand-alone and takes us back to the world of Morgravia from her very first series, The Quickening:

    About The Scrivener's Tale:

In the bookshops and cafes of present-day Paris, ex-psychologist Gabe Figaret is trying to put his shattered life back together. When another doctor, Reynard, asks him to help with a delusional female patient, Gabe is reluctant... until he meets her. At first Gabe thinks the woman, Angelina, is merely terrified of Reynard, but he quickly discovers she is not quite what she seems.

As his relationship with Angelina deepens, Gabe's life in Paris becomes increasingly unstable. He senses a presence watching and following every move he makes, and yet he finds Angelina increasingly irresistible.

When Angelina tells Gabe he must kill her and flee to a place she calls Morgravia, he is horrified. But then Angelina shows him that the cathedral he has dreamt about since childhood is real and exists in Morgravia.

A special 10th Anniversary edition of her first fantasy book, Myrren's Gift, will be released in December!

Win an e-copy of Tatsania’s Gift, a new novella by Kim Falconer!

Watch the book trailer and see if you can guess exactly what Tatsania’s Gift is.

Kim will drop some hints in the comments below to guide you. Enter (in the comments) as many times as you like. If you have more than one idea, let’s hear them! Kim is giving away copies of Tatsania’s Gift to the best/closest/most interesting answers. If you make her laugh, you’ll definitely get one! Your choice of Kindle, Kobo or iBook.

About the story Six-year-old Kali is forced to fight for her life when her mother is dragged away by ASSIST and two cruel ′aunties′ turn up to take care of her. But her mother has left her something precious – a gift that can save the world. With it Kali discovers her own magical powers and joins the underground movement where she learns the skills she’ll need to survive on Earth. But no magic in our world could ever prepare her for what is to come . . .

Why a novella? When I finished Journey by Night, book three in the Quantum Encryption series, my publisher and I realised that the first six chapters told a self-contained story of life on 24th century Earth. We decided to start JBN at chapter 7 and turn these first six chapters into a novella, which is now Tatasnia’s Gift. For those new to the Quantum Enchantment and Quantum Encryption series, I hope this story will whet your appetite. If you have devoured the earlier works and are longing for more, this is it! Enjoy!

We are all looking forward to your guesses! See you in the comments.
Tatsania’s Gift is out offically on the 1st of September.

  1. I am going to guess that Tatsania’s gift is the ability to turn what she imagines into reality.

  2. I think Tatsania’s gift is Nell. Not just Nell, but the fact that Nell is kept hidden from everyone else, so that she won’t be taken from her. By keeping Nell safely hidden, Kali is never alone, which is what her mother wished for her. It gave Kali strength to grow into the person she needed to be to save the world.

  3. I’ve just finished Road to the Soul (I’m reading in Kim’s suggested order) so have no idea on what’s to come.

I’m not sure how much time has passed from Road to the Soul to Tatsania’s Gift, so I’m assuming that Tatsania is of the Richter line and thus the gift would include the DNA in Kali that is required in order for JARROD to know who she is and be able to work together to save Earth.

In the clip there’s another little girl, but with the cruel “aunties” (who are most likely ASSIST) in the picture, I can only guess that this second girl is a spirit (perhaps a projection from Tatsania herself?) that is unseen by anyone else, and she helps Kali unlock her magical potential.

I’m so keen to read more, can’t wait!

  4. It could be a sister that was gifted to Kali!

  5. The gift is Nellion Paree, The precious strength for Kali to survive loneliness and hardship, through companionship Kali and Nell are able to support and nuture each other

  6. Kali’s gift? She’s twice the girl she thought she was. 😉

  7. Kali was ‘gifted’ the ability to trust, to develop immense self-esteem, to show compassion & forgiveness, to fight (for what is right) and to have unconditional (pure) love for all things in&around her.

Only when you are completely at ease and true to yourself & to the cause of mother nature, only then will the powers within you awaken/manifest to its full potential… and with those powers, nothing is impossible anymore. You can achieve anything you put your mind to it. Because impossible are only the things you don’t try! :-))

    • Awesome, Christine. That’s inspiring!

Kreshkali didn’t get there in a day, I promise. Love all the gifts you list!

Hint for everyone: Tatsania’s gift was a single act that changed the ordinary perspective . . . forever!

      • I didn’t mean for it to sound like Kali was just “given” that gift. She aquired it through the teachings of her mother…. so it was hard work…

but since that it’s not what it is… hmmm…
        btw: what is Kreshkali doing at 0:14 – 0:18 ?? can’t figure that…
After re-watching the trailer I still have no frelling clue what the gift could be… I bet once we know it’s like *slap on forehead* + exclaiming “but of course!”… but right now it’s a gazillion “?????”

The only and last thing I can think of is that Tatsania sacrificed herself (her life) for Kali (when ASSIST was on the way to grab her&her kin) so that Kali could live and carry on her legacy – albeit having had the power to deter/escape them (Tatsania that is). But that wouldn’t have helped in the greater scheme of things. So with this act
she was instilling in Kali the will and power to survive and also somehow triggered the process of the twin mind to emerge + slipping part of her own consciousness into Kali to guide her – thus changing Kali’s perspective (being able to exist in 2 different worlds at the same time; always knowing what’s going on in the other world) (kinda like a 3D-/Surround Vision).

Or maybe it’s got to do with the acid rain/collecting drinking water.
Tatsania figured out how to purify it (make it drinkable again) – thus making water not the rare (to kill for) commodity that it used to be for so long. That way she was giving mankind one less problem to worry about and instead had them re-focus their energy on hope. Showing them the silver lining that all life can be safed & thus turning them into “helpers” for the cause to save the planet (instead of killing each other to survive).
Naturally she had to hide that knowledge/formula/mystery… so that only those of the “Line” could figure it out (which Kreshkali did in the end).
Maybe the last missing ‘ingredient’ was the sacrifice of life (one has to die so that many can live)?

dunno… somehow I also want to weave Rosette’s daughter into this… loool

        argh!!! I’m giving up… *winks*

      • Something in here is absolutely spot on 🙂 Well said Christine.

SERIOUSLY?! awesome! 🙂 –> dang me for throwing so many theories out there though…. *pulls out hair*…. *haha*

Glad you like my idea for Pasillo… I suppose it’s too late now to modify the books accordingly … (and cut me a share of your earnings) ? … 😉

and TY for compliment re: brainstorming… I tend to get carried away sometimes… loool
run your ideas for your next books by me next time & see what I can come up with… *giggles*

        PS: Is it Monday yet?

  8. A single act that changed the perspective? Hmm, did she somehow fix the sea-devils and then everyone realised hey, we actually can do something to fix Earth?

    • This is something that we will see, but not yet, not in Tatsani’a Gift! I do know that if I was in that 24th C dystopia, I would want YOU there as an ally!

  9. HINT: The gift is depicted in the book trailer. Not saying which frames! 🙂

    Love all the guesses!

BTW thank you MonkeyMeFilms for the fabulous trailers! (That’s my gorgeous sister folks!)

    • Oooh! Is it the playground?! A gift for the children, to give them a chance to be kids and play, and for adults to think of the future and to try and create a better world for them? Instead of being like “the man” that Kay/Raynar dealt with and exploiting children.

I think I’m grasping at straws now! 🙂

      • Good ref to the man that Kay (Raynar) had to grow up with . . . and I love the idea that Kali and Nell could have such a playground . . . but the gift is . . . something else. lol The guesses are wonderful though! Fortunately, for those in suspense, the gift is revealed very early in Chapter 1! Keep thinking!

  10. Love the trailer. the gift is a bit hard to see on the trailer. I’m going try to guess twice, the first guess is a bird. Second guess and after looking at it three times is an dagger. But the playground hint I think is friendship.

    • Hi Robert! Great guesses. The bird one is interesting because Nell does bond with three young ravens when she . . . well, later in the series. (It’s not a spoiler to say she bonds with the Three Sisters as it’s on the book covers 🙂

I didn’t realise there was a dagger in book trailer! Going to have a look again for that! Terrific ideas . . . the gift though is . . . something else!

  11. Perhaps with the death of Tatsania the balance in the powers shifted (“the positive” gaining the momentum). This changed/reinforced the perspective of those people who were already “in tune” with the world / receptive to the idea of a “clean new world”. Making them even more dedicated resistance fighters.

Or we could have Tatsania harness all her powers when death was imminant and turn it into what is “Pasillo”, so starting this “legacy” of the power being passed down from mother to daughter. And each time it is passed on, a tiny part of the person passing it on is added to it – so that the spell becomes even more powerful with time and awards the “new bearer” with many new perspectives (from the experiences of the ‘foremothers’).

I’m probably mixing up all the timelines now… *giggles*

ok – shutting up now… my brain is fried! *hahaha*

When will we find out again what the gift is?

    • This is actually a very cool idea, what you suggest for Pasillo. I love it! Great brainstorming, btw!

I will announce winners on Monday morning (Aussie time). Stand by! 🙂

  12. In #Tatsania’sGift #booktrailer between 0:14 – 0:18, Kali is playing with ‘Bear’ 🙂

  13. Maybe I might be wrong about the dagger, but maybe its a big key to saving the world. Had to see it again another three times. It is a bit hard to see, properly with it being too shadowy. I know it was for us to guess it. Or my screen is not … hang on… I’m on my old laptop at the moment and I’m saving for a new computer… let’s not talk about it 😦

Okay, after another three times, I’m guessing officially it is love encased in the toy Tatsania is playing with. The toy looks like a sculptured angel or the likeness of her mother.
