Shadow of the Eclipse …

Exact Times

L.A. – Friday 4.31
Sydney – Friday 21.31
London – Friday 12.31
New York – Friday 7.31

This fantastic Full Moon over the home image was found the internet. Can anyone recognise the work? The signature? I would love to know!

RAM: The lead up to the eclipse is like stretching a rubber band between two posts, one called ‘home life’ and the other called ‘career goals’. Trust, you will fly forward! The ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but where They stands at times of challenge and controversy. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

AUROCHS: This eclipse is a balancing act between what you think and what you think you think. Open your mind! In a world that is constantly changing, there is no one subject or set of subjects that will serve you for the foreseeable future, let alone for the rest of your life. The most important skill to acquire now is learning how to learn. ~John Naisbitt

TWINS: The eclipse brings a shedding of the old skin and the growing of a new one. There could be an awkward moment of nakedness in between, but that is only if the awesomeness of the body is forgotten. Appreciate the vessel, and everything else!  When one tugs at a single thing in nature, we find it attached to the rest of the world. ~John Mui

COBRA: The eclipse raises issues of wants and desire, expectations and responsibilities. It may feel like things would settle out smooth and easy if only he/she were a little different (smarter, taller, kinder, richer etc) Really? You think that’s true? We know the fallacy of falling for the belief that something or someone will make us feel better. ~Jeannette Maw

LION:  A week of contrasts, this is a perfect time to shake off the social expectations and find a more authentic expression. If you think there is an inherent conflict between your inner spiritual world and ‘life outside’, think again!  If you want to wear white robes and chant, that’s fine, but you can just as well wear Armani and listen to U2 if you prefer. ~James Ray

CERES: This eclipse brings a lot of energy your way and you could get antsy just sitting on your hands. Ask what feels good and do more of that! Do more than belong: participate. Do more than care: help. Do more than believe: practice. Do more than be fair: be kind. Do more than forgive: forget. Do more than dream: work. ~ William Arthur Ward

BALENCIA: Too much calculation and planning isn’t always the best approach to the eclipse time. Sure, you’ll achieve what you want, but what about the things you haven’t even thought of yet?  Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back – a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country. ~ Anaïs Nin

SCORPION: There is a lot of restless pacing during this full moon eclipse, a time of heightened mental activity. Remember, you get to choose what you dwells on!  Find thoughts that feel good, because it is inevitable that you are going to always be moving toward something. So why not be moving toward something that is pleasing? ~Abraham Hicks

ARCHER: This eclipse is a window to subtle layers of reality. When you see a fish you don’t think of its scales, do you? You think of its speed, its floating, flashing body seen through the water… If I made fins and eyes and scales, I would arrest its movement, give a pattern or shape of reality. I want just the flash of its spirit. ~Constantin Brancusi

SEA-GOAT: If you have in mind a change of pace, a shifting scenery, this eclipse is for you! My mind rebels at stagnation. Give me problems, give me work, give me the most abstruse cryptogram, or the most intricate analysis, and I am in my own proper atmosphere. But I abhor the dull routine of existence. I crave for mental exaltation. ~Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

WATER-BEARER: Having a strong will is a wonderful thing, unless it keeps you from even more wonderful things! Wouldn’t it be great if you noticed that your version of the rules for your reality wasn’t working so well, and you could exercise your freedom to choose to release some of your negative or limiting beliefs and concepts? ~Richard Bartlett

FISHES: The mood around this eclipse is tricky for the fish, not because there is a heavy hand, or absences or love, or increase of burden, but because the Muse has spotted you and she’s coming to call. Her requirements are simple—express the creative spark within.  Creativity – like human life itself – begins in darkness. ~Julia Cameron

  1. The Captain was asking about the shadow business so I thought I’d share it here for everyone: The Shadow of the eclipse is an ancient astrological term referring to the rather unique timing around eclipses. This isn’t about the actual geometry of the Sun, Earth and Moon during the eclipse when Earth’s two shadows are seen, the penumbra and the umbra.

Instead it relates to the timing of the eclipse event, not in actual minutes of transit but in the ‘orb of influence’ –the days in which the eclipse event coincides with events in our ‘reality’. (Note I always use the word coincide instead of cause. It’s an important distinction!

In this definition (if you’re still reading!) the shadow of the eclipse is 3 days before the event, the day of the event and 3 days after. For you astrologers out there, you know the Moon is no where near the orb of conjunction that whole time and indeed is on to the next sign, but still we say it is in orb, it’s ‘active.’ Green to go.

If that’s not enough to stir up the brain cells, the ancients also found that eclipses could coincide with events thirty days (plus or minus 3 days)before the eclipse or thirty days(+/-3) after. This plays havoc with our notions of time, and is also a good case for backward causation–a mind twisting quantum physics theory all to itself!

And for those STILL readying (he he he)here’s an article on Backward Causation from and astrological perspective.

    Thanks for asking, Nat!

PS If anyone recognises the artist, please give us a bell! I want to credit properly, and perhaps go shopping! Love it!

  2. Thanks for the link, Kim – as soon as you mentioned ‘backwards causation’ I went ‘What?!’. And thank you for the explanation of the shadow! Off to read the article now.

    • Or the quick answer is: The shadow of the eclipse includes 3 days before and 3 days after the event!

Why didn’t I just say that the first time???

  3. I’m dying to know the artist of this image as well! Where did you find it online?

    • I found it here, on Flicker, 0hSuzyQ/whimsy site. I messaged her, tweeted my 3000+ followers, plastered the image on FB and my websites asking ‘Who is this artist.’ No bites!

I first ran across it googling ‘surreal moon’.

Any ideas? Who’s an art PI out there?

  4. I Googled my heart out, using many different search phrases, and searched DeviantArt until my eyes were practically bleeding. I’ve come up with nothing. I hope someone locates the artist!!

    • Great work… all of that.

Did you notice the signature? If we could read it, or a part of it or recognise it…. I can’t work it out yet, but I’m not giving up!

      • Yeah, I was trying to figure out the signature too. I blew up the image, but of course that only made it more blurry. It looks like it might say “08” … or that might just be part of the signature. What a mystery!!!

      • BTW, I have this image as my desktop background now. Just love looking at it! Thanks for sharing it, even if we never find out who created it. 🙂

      • I thought that was an 08 or 09 as well.

Yes, It’s beautiful. I love it too!

      • Maybe I need to do a horary chart on ‘who is the unknown artist?’

Rosette could figure it out, for sure!

  5. hi Kim & kiki,

this photo IS amazing and now on my desktop too! Looks like the artist’s name is watermarked in the center of the photo s p r e a d o u t in tiny red fonts (reddish). Begins w/an ‘A’.

Makes it even more intriguing, doesn’t it?

  6. watermark is center from left to right, that is

    • Wow Linda, I hadn’t even noticed those letters!

      • I hadn’t seen the watermark letters either. I popped it into photoshop and enlarged and sharpened and brightened and contrasted. Starts with an A _ C and anybody’s guess from there.

Will give it to my 3D son (I mean my son who is a 3D artist) and see what he can make of it.
